PROJECT SUCCESS - Components & Activities
School-Wide Awareness Activities - The program uses announcements, posters, presentations, contests, special assemblies, and other activities in conjunction with national events such as Red Ribbon Week and The Great American Smokeout. Project Success (PS) also collaborates with students groups such as Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Peer Assisted Leadership (PAL) and Students Taking a New Direction (STAND) to bring alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention messages to students, parents and the community.
Individual and Group Sessions - Project Success Counselor (PSC) meets with students on an individual basis to assess the need for further services and resources. Students may also participate in a student educational support group, which covers topics relevant to adolescents, such as relationships, substance use, grief, coping and stress.
Parent Programs - PS includes parents as collaborative partners in prevention through parent awareness and education programs. Prevention messages are developed and distributed to parents through newsletters, displays and information at parent events, community-wide campaigns and various county media sources.
Referral and Case Management - PSC meets with students and families who require additional assistance to appropriate resources including those for substance abuse and mental health. Additionally,PSC maintains ongoing contact with the youth and family to connect them to the appropriate services and remove potential obstacles for services.
PSC follows-up with the youth and/or family to ensure the youth received beneficial and appropriate services.
